Hey, I’m Marcus
Ten years ago I was sleeping in a shelter in Dallas with everything I owned in a backpack. Today I’m writing this from my own house in Pennsylvania – a house where the lights turn on when I walk in, the thermostat knows my schedule, and I get a notification on my phone if someone steps on my porch.
That journey from homeless to smart home is why this site exists. When you spend years without a place to call your own, having a home that actually responds to you feels like a miracle. I started tinkering with smart devices the day I moved into my first studio apartment – a $12 smart plug from Walmart. That was it. I was hooked.
This blog is where I share what I’ve learned along the way. No expensive setups, no brand deals. Just honest advice from someone who knows what it’s like to build a home from nothing.
What You’ll Find Here

Climate Control
Smart thermostats, HVAC tips, and ways to cut your energy bill. I saved $40 a month after my first thermostat upgrade – and I’ll show you how.

Home Security
Cameras, smart locks, motion sensors. After years of not feeling safe, security was the first thing I invested in. I’ll help you pick what actually works.

Smart Lighting
From budget smart bulbs to full automation. Nothing beats walking into a room and having the lights just know what you need.
I don’t write reviews for companies. I write for people who are building their homes on a real budget – because that’s exactly what I did. If you want the full story, check out the About page.
